鋼琴問世距今已將近三百年，製造工藝的進步是否讓聲音變得更純淨優美？美國普渡大學（Purdue University）物理學教授喬丹諾（Nicholas Giordano）的研究顯示，儘管三百年來所使用的琴弦材質不斷進步，但十七世紀的鋼琴與今日鋼琴所發出的音頻基本上是一樣的。
